Mexican fans at the World Cup

Saturday’s Liga MX match between Queretaro and Atlas was halted after a violent altercation with dozens of fans at the Estadio Corregidora.

The fans fought in the stands and on the field, there were some acts of using weapons to cause injury. The match was adjourned midway through the second half as violence spread throughout the stadium.

There were numerous photos and videos shared on social media of the scuffle. There were many pictures of people lying in the yard.

According to Bleacher Report Football, at least 17 people have died.

Dozens of injured and critical people were taken to hospital.

But Liga MX and Queretaro organizers declined to confirm any deaths so far.

One journalist struggling to find the truth is Ignacio Suarez, who reported more precise numbers through his official Twitter account.

While local authorities said 22 people were injured and nine of them were in critical condition.

Following the disaster, Liga MX has just announced it will suspend Sunday’s matches, for a total of 3.
