Because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the country was attacked. It was a politically related incident, but it inadvertently affected Russia’s position in the sports arena. FIFA and UEFA have issued strong announcements banning Russian clubs and the Russian team from participating in any tournaments controlled by these two federations.

However, despite all these sanctions, the Russian side still thinks of a bold ambition. Specifically, the Russian Football Federation intends to participate in the bidding to host the right to organize EURO 2028 and the 2032 World Cup . Reports from Russia earlier cited an executive committee member named Sergey Anokhin to indicate an interest in bidding for the tournaments.

Additionally, a post on the federation’s official website outlined the results from Wednesday’s executive committee meeting. That post clearly indicated his support for hosting EURO 2028 and the 2032 World Cup.

Russia’s opponents will be the United Kingdom, Ireland, Turkey and a coalition group consisting of Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia.

Previously, Russia hosted the 2018 World Cup, but this is not the key factor to help this country continue to do the same.
