The Grand Canyon men’s soccer team earned its fourth weekly WAC award with junior forward Cameron Weller being named Offensive Player of the Week. He was also selected to the College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer national teams of the week.
This is the first WAC honor for Weller. Over the past two games, he scored four goals and added two assists to help the Lopes move to 5-0 in conference play and 10-1 overall.
On Friday, Weller scored his first goal of the season in the 87th minute unassisted in the 6-0 win against Incarnate Word. He assisted the first goal of the night as he crossed a perfect ball to fifth-year midfielder Justin Rasmussen and the second assist came in the 85th minute on fifth-year forward Rey Gaytan’s goal.
Sunday’s match against UT Rio Grande Valley was the best showing of the junior’s career. Weller outscored his collegiate career on Sunday night with a hat trick. The Spokane, Washington, product scored in his 2019 GCU debut, but only played two more games that season and logged just 51 minutes last season.
The Lopes head to San Jose State to continue WAC play on Saturday.
