Grand Canyon junior pitcher Pierson Ohl landed on the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings West All-Region Second Team that was announced on Wednesday.
The award is the latest in a long line of recognition for the Lopes’ ace. Ohl was also named a second-team All-American, the WAC Pitcher of the Year, an All-WAC first-team honoree and the WAC Tournament MVP.
He also checks in as one of the nation’s top-10 pitchers based on analytical numbers provided by D1Baseball.com.
Ohl was the top pitcher on a GCU staff that helped the Lopes win their fifth WAC regular-season title, win their first WAC tournament title and advance to their first NCAA tournament at the Division I level.
Ohl is tied for the nation’s lead with seven complete games. His 2.60 earned run average ranks in the top 70, and his WHIP ranks 12th.
Per usual, Ohl exhibited some of the best control among all pitchers in the country, ranking third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.58) and fifth in fewest walks per nine innings (1.08).
