MU: Mason Greenwood’s harmful selfishness

Mason Greenwood is a promising talent for MU, but his selfishness in the way he plays is causing him and the club many problems.

Ronaldo is not satisfied with Greenwood

In the 4th minute of the match between MU and West Ham in the recent 23rd round of the Premier League, the home team had a very good chance to open the scoring, but Mason Greenwood squandered it, unfortunately.

Greenwood was approached by West Ham defenders while Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes both had open positions. Two Portuguese players made movements to ask for the ball, but the young star of MU chose to finish off the wrong way.

Greenwood played individually and ineffectively against West Ham.

As long as Greenwood gives the ball to Ronaldo or Bruno, the possibility of a goal is higher and the game can completely go in a favorable direction for MU.

After the match, despite posting a status on Instagram congratulating MU’s victory, Ronaldo was not satisfied with Greenwood (and Harry Maguire).

In the match against West Ham, before having to make way for Anthony Martial in the 82nd minute, Greenwood also launched another shot but was not accurate.

During his time on the field, he did not create any finishing opportunities for his teammates. This is poor performance with a winger.

When Jadon Sancho could not play, coach Ralf Rangnick gave Greenwood a favor. However, what this 20-year-old international football player responded to made the German military leader as well as some of his teammates unhappy.

Greenwood is playing football too individually, looking for his own goals instead of thinking about the collective good.

Need to change to grow up

Greenwood’s talent developed rapidly during his time with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It is also Solskjaer who often encourages Mason to finish to create mutations.

Over time, along with the indulgence of the former Norwegian coach, Greenwood formed a habit of individual competition.

In the top division of English football this season, the player born in 2001 scored 5 goals and only 1 assist after 1,278 minutes of presence on the field.

Greenwood must change for his own future.

Greenwood needs an average of 255.6 minutes to score in the Premier League. He has 38 shots, with a conversion rate of 13.2%.

Mason’s finishing performance is lower than the average of the entire MU team, reaching a rate of 16.1%.

Since Rangnick appeared, Greenwood has scored 2 goals and 1 assist in all competitions. However, the 63-year-old captain wanted more.

Rangnick is still developing MU according to his football method. Things are showing positive signs, when the Red Devils won 7 out of 9 points in the last 3 Premier League rounds.

Rangnick’s method requires the highest collective consciousness, including Ronaldo. Therefore, Greenwood must change himself to become more mature.

Gareth Southgate did not pay attention to Greenwoods because of his individual style of play. To think of a place with England at the 2022 World Cup, Mason is not allowed to maintain the selfish habit of playing.
