Man Utd announce Ronaldo’s return from Juventus
Last summer’s transfer window, the Red Devils in turn brought in Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and especially Cristiano Ronaldo. The return of the Portuguese striker created a media explosion. Man Utd fans therefore dreamed about CR7 becoming the leader, bringing the Old Trafford team back to its original position.
However, what we are seeing is quite the opposite. Man Utd were eliminated from the FA Cup and League Cup in turn, facing the risk of not being able to reach the top 4 of the Premier League. In the Champions League, it is clear that the Red Devils are not the top candidates for the championship. Ronaldo, after the first 6 months of the boom, has now shown signs of decline. At the age of 37, the former Juventus star is even being considered a problem in the way the club plays.
In fact, this is what Gary Neville predicted at the start of the season. He told Sky Sports in August: “The Glazers did what they usually do when under pressure. They make 2 or 3 signings and it basically shuts everyone up.
I think there are deep-rooted problems at Man United.
They can’t let Ronaldo go to Manchester City. They did it in the past with Alexis Sanchez when he was very close to City, and MU jumped in.
They have to jump in at that moment, whether they want to or not is another matter. No Man United fan can complain about the three players the club signed this summer.
I don’t think signing Ronaldo makes United a better team than Chelsea, who won the Champions League last season, and Man City.”
Last weekend, Man Utd lost 1-4 to Man City. That loss clearly showed the difference in level between the two teams. The plot of the Glazer family when bringing Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane back to “silence” the fans – as Neville said, was completely counterproductive. In front of the Red Devils is a mess that needs to be resolved.
Rio Ferdinand also predicts that Man Utd will be empty-handed for at least 2 more years, for the club to build a new squad, with new contracts, under the new captain. But will the Glazers really strategize for the Red Devils, or will they continue to bring in blockbuster deals next summer to silence the fans?
