Divers head north for Lumberjack Invitational

Grand Canyon’s women’s divers head to Flagstaff for the Lumberjack Invitational on Saturday. The Lopes will compete on platform only against UC Davis, Idaho and Northern Arizona at 3:15 p.m. in the Wall Aquatic Center.

Saturday’s events will begin with the 1-meter event preliminaries (10:30 a.m.), followed by consolations (11:45 a.m.) and finals at (12:30 p.m.). Platform will begin at 3:15 p.m.

GCU junior Abigail Erickson earned an NCAA zone qualifying score on the 3-meter board after placing second with 294.08 points against Idaho.

Freshman Shiori Bak joins sophomore teammate Lizzy Mcknight, who qualified for NCAA zones in the 1-meter and platform. Bak earned an NCAA zone qualifying score after winning her first event on platform with 235.73 points against Air Force.

Mcknight earned 266.55 points in the 1-meter event for her first NCAA zone-qualifying score of the season against LSU. She also won the 3-meter dive for her second NCAA zone qualifying score of 265.65 points, against California Baptist at the Lancer Invite.

The Lumberjacks are coming off a 180-115 win against New Mexico State. Sophomore Victoria Knapp claimed first place on the 1- and 3-meter springboards, earning WAC Women’s Diver of the Week. She also holds two NCAA zone qualifying scores on the springboards in her first meet of the season. Sophomore Maegan Jensen also earned a zone qualifying score after placing second behind Knapp in the 3-meter dive against the Lobos. Senior Alyssa Jones scored 261.45 points in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to earn a second-place finish after coming off an injury. The NAU diving program is led by head coach Nikki Kelsey, who is in her 26th year with the Lumberjacks.

Lopes will head to Oxford, Ohio, for the midseason Miami Invitational on Dec. 2-4.
