Philippe Coutinho signed for Aston Villa after passing a medical and was granted a work permit in the UK.
On the morning of January 12 (Hanoi time), Aston Villa’s homepage confirmed Coutinho became a rookie of the club. The Brazilian midfielder moved from Barca on a loan contract with a term until the end of the season, with an option to buy permanently.
Some sources in the UK revealed that Aston Villa must spend more than 30 million pounds if the clause to buy Coutinho is activated.
“I feel honored to wear the Aston Villa shirt. This is a fantastic club. I spoke to manager Steven Gerrard. Gerrard told me about Aston Villa and his ambitions here. I am happy to have moved. come here and want to enjoy my own football,” Coutinho said on the launch day of the new club.
“I’ve known Gerrard for a long time. I’ve played alongside him and learned a lot. I admire Gerrard and want to give my best here,” Coutinho continued.
Coutinho played alongside Gerrard at Liverpool between 2012 and 2015. The influence from Gerrard was an important turning point for Coutinho to join Aston Villa.
The former Liverpool star receives more than 15 million euros per year (before tax) at Barca. Aston Villa and Barca will share Coutinho’s treatment for the rest of the 2021/22 season.
This season, Coutinho played 12 matches for Barca and scored 2 goals. The Brazilian player has lost his place since coach Xavi returned to Camp Nou. With the move to Aston Villa, Coutinho’s most important goal is to regain his form and raise hopes of attending the 2022 World Cup with Brazil.
