Bak, Erickson lead Lopes in platform at NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Grand Canyon women’s diving team headed north to Northern Arizona, where they competed in platform preliminaries at the Lumberjack Diving Invite on Saturday.

“I thought all the divers competed very well today,” head diving coach Hunter Shafer said. “Highlighted by our 1-2 finish in the women’s event against a strong NAU diving squad. Both Abigail and Shiori made zone qualifying scores for platform.”

The Lopes dominated on the tower, as junior Abigail Erickson and freshman Shiori Bak finished one-two in the competition after each earning an NCAA zone qualifying score. Erikson earned 257.60 points breaking GCU’s all-time record that was set by 2020 NCAA qualifier Sara Lameiro). Classmate Bak totaled 247.60 points.

GCU freshman Reagan Fulton took part in her first competition after coming back from injury. She scored 151.55 points.

The Lopes’ next competition will be the Miami Invitational on Dec. 2-4 in Oxford, Ohio.
