The Marquette Women’s Volleyball team left for Champaign on Wednesday for their first NCAA Tournament appearance. Meredith Vertin was at the Al McGuire Center, as fans and other members of the Marquette community held a send-off for the Golden Eagles.
The team was victorious over Western Kentucky and will face Illinois this evening in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Head Coach Terri Mitchell became the all-time winningest coach in Marquette women’s basketball history on Tuesday with a win over the University of New Orleans, 96-35. Brian Timmreck has more from the Al McGuire Center.
Mark Freund has the latest from The Bradley Center, where the Marquette crushed the Jacksonville Dolphins. The 88-56 win was key for the Golden Eagles, as they head to Madison to take on in-state rival Wisconsin this Saturday.
The Marquette Women’s Volleyball team beat Seton Hall in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament. Holly Mertens was key in the Golden Eagles offensive attack, garnering a team-high 15 kills. Meredith Vertin learned why Mertens has served as an inspiration to this team.

Marquette, who is ranked #19th in the country, beat Norfolk State, 91-68 in the opening game of the Paradise Jam. Jae Crowder told Tess Quinlan at the Bradley Center that Vander Blue’s improvement is due to the influence of one Marquette player.
The Golden Eagles will compete in the remaining Paradise Jam games in the Virgin Islands this weekend.
The Marquette Women’s Soccer team survived Toledo in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, winning 1-0 in OT. Sophomore Taylor Madigan scored the game winning goal with three minutes left in the first OT. Madigan, who scored the game winner in OT vs. Notre Dame, said that anyone can score the game winning goal and it just happened to be her tonight. Tess Quinlan has more from Valley Fields.
After a tough road trip this weekend, the Marquette Women’s Volleyball team returned home to sweep Notre Dame in straight sets. Ciara Jones had 18 kills on the night. Adam Ballent has more from the Al McGuire Center.
Coach Buzz Williams focused on the win over Mt. St. Mary’s, but also acknowledged the importance of Veteran’s Day. That officer, who is a Marquette alumnus, was back in Milwaukee last night and visited the Golden Eagles in the locker room. Buzz said that this serviceman’s visit really affected the Golden Eagles.

Since the NBA is locked out, many former Marquette players were in attendance at the 2011 Marquette Madness. Most of the fans did not know exactly which NBA players would be in attendance, providing a unique buzz all around campus leading up to the event.
