Marquette’s campus was the site of the annual Buzz’s Bar-B-Q, an event for the Marquette community in celebration of the 2011-2012 Golden Eagles. Marquette left Milwaukee for Phoenix – and the Sweet 16 – Tuesday afternoon, but before they departed, Coach Buzz Williams and various players met with the media. Among the topics of discussion were the difference between 2011 and 2012’s Sweet 16 teams, helping the younger players navigate their first Sweet 16 appearance, and a scouting report on the Golden Eagles’ next opponent, the Florida Gators. Marquette is historically known as a basketball school, not as a football school. As Tess Quinlan found out, that could be changing. Jae Crowder, Buzz Williams said, has gained some attention from NFL teams and Crowder already has one in mind.

Marquette prepared for their third round game of the NCAA Tournament against Murray St. by having a closed practice on Friday. Buzz Williams, Vander Blue and Darius Johnson-Odom gave their thoughts on Murray St and compared them to one Big East opponent. Tess Quinlan has more from the KFC Yum! Center.

Marquette beat BYU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 88-68. Jae Crowder had a double double in the first half and Darius Johnson-Odom contributed 20 points of his own. The Golden Eagles will face Murray St. on Saturday. Buzz Williams told MUTVSports’ Tess Quinlan that Marquette has a secret weapon to combat the home court advantage that Kentucky’s own, Murray St., will have.

Marquette arrived in Louisville on Tuesday night, ready to face off against their opponent, which had yet to be determined. The team practiced on Wednesday and spoke with the media, ending their day with some half court shots. Buzz Williams even made some attempts, but was not successful. Jae Crowder told MUTVSports’ Tess Quinlan why Coach Williams could not hit a shot.

After securing a double bye in the Big East Tournament, Marquette faced off against Louisville for the second year in a row. The golden eagles could not come back from a 15 point deficit to beat the cardinals, losing 84-71. The team had 26 turnovers, the highest in Buzz Williams’ tenure at Marquette. Seniors Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom played their final game as members of the Golden Eagles at the Bradley Center against Georgetown, winning 83-69. It was quite a day at the Bradley Center with the senior day festivities and sophomore center Davante Gardner returning for the first time since his knee injury vs. Villanova. Buzz Williams told MUTVSports’ senior, Donnie Dwyer, that while having Gardner back for limited minutes was great, it was all about the seniors.

Marquette went on the road needing just one win to lock up the second seed in the Big East Tournament. Cincinnati denied their effort with a 72-61 victory over the Golden Eagles. Mark Freund has more from Fifth Third Arena.

On National Marquette Day, Marquette was down 16-4 in the first five minutes. Darius Johnson-Odom and Jae Crowder helped the Golden Eagles come back and win the game, 95-78. Even though the seniors had a key role, MUTVSports’ Shawni Smith found out that sophomore Jamail Jones was crucial to Marquette’s success.

Marquette finished strong vs. DePaul, winning 89-76. The Golden Eagles’ starting five scored in double figures, but Buzz Williams told Tess Quinlan that Junior Cadougan’s ball control and Jamil Wilson’s hustle were key for Marquette tonight.
