WNCAA: Marquette 79 West Virginia 59
MILWAUKEE–The Golden Eagles used a second half offensive explosion led by Erin Monfre and Krystal Ellis to beat the West Virginia Mountaineers 79-59 and snap their two game losing streak.
The Golden Eagles were led by a resurgent Krystal Ellis, who cam off the bench and contributed 25 points. However, the story of the game was senior Erin Monfre who scored a career high 21 points on 7-9 shooting from three point range, the 7 three pointers ties a Marquette record.
The first half seemed to be another tough shooting day as the Golden Eagles shot just over 32% from the floor and were a porous 1-6 from three. However, the second half saw Marquette fire on all cylinders as they built up a hefty lead thanks to a 15-3 early in the second half that put Marquette up by 12, the lead would grow to as much as 24. The hot shooting continued as the Golden Eagles shot over 52% from the floor including 9-13 from three in the second half. For the game, Marquette shot 42% from the floor and 52% from three.
The win pushes their conference record closer to .500 as it now stands at 5-6, Marquette is 14-11 overall on the season. Marquette will try to continue their hot shooting on the road as they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats, tip off is set for 6 PM CT.
