MILWAUKEE- Marquette’s Big East woes continued as they lost at home to the Villanova Wildcats 46-45. The loss is the second in a row for the Golden Eagles and their fourth in their last fifth. The loss puts Marquette 13-11 overall and 4-6 in the Big East. The Golden Eagles were led by forward Jessica Pachko with 16 points and Angel Robinson finished with 14. However, the Achilles heel for the Golden Eagles ended up being a poor shooting performance. The Golden Eagles finished 17-51 from the floor and 2-11 from three point range. However their defense was able to keep them in the game and Marquette went on a run in the final eight minutes that nearly won them the game.
The Golden Eagles defense held Villanova to only five points for the final 7 minutes and sixteen seconds which allowed Marquette to pull within one point with under five seconds to play. However, a last second lay up by Angel Robinson fell short, along with the Golden Eagles comeback.
The Wildcats were led forward Laura Kurz who finished with 17 points, the only other player in double figures for Villanova was forward Lisa Karcic. Villanova also struggled greatly from the field shooting 17-48 from the floor and 4-18 from three-point range.
